I have had meditation as a part of my life on and off now for about 10 years, and I say “on and off” because like everything in life this was also a journey, one I stumbled upon at first and then realized that this was divine, like everything else. I always get questions about meditation and assumptions about marriage and I feel that sharing my knowledge on this topic is divine and my responsibility.
Contrary to popular belief, the point of meditation is to surrender and relinquish control, not necessarily to “quiet” your mind. For a lot of us, meditation is very intimidating, it’s not easy facing the ‘self’. Making it a bit of a challenge to meditate. For those of us who aren’t big fans of meditation, no need to worry—there are other mindfulness exercises we can try that offer similar benefits; think: decreased anxiety, increased self-awareness, and more creativity Below, I’ll be sharing x mindfulness exercises to try if you’re not a fan of meditation or when you’re just having one of those days.
1. A grounding exercise
Whenever I feel heavy, spiritually heavy, my heart feels heavy, or I am experiencing feelings I cannot explain and cannot understand, this grounding meditation is one of my go-to meditations. In my mind, this is called “mother-daughter/son bonding time”. So I am going to share with you guys how I do this method, hopefully you see the difference in your day-to-day. Make sure you’re outside for this because you need Mother Nature for this exercise.
“Sit on a chair or big cushion, with your feet firmly on the grass/soil. Gently close your eyes. Take a few deep cleansing breaths.
Now, imagine all the heaviness, and negative vibes as a spinning green ball, imagine this calm, fast-spinning ball moving through your body, from your crown to your root, while collecting all the negative energy throughout your body down to under your feet into mother nature (ground), as she’s draining all the negativity and heaviness from your body feel the warmth of the Sun healing, feeling yourself feel calmer and lighter and restoring you with positive warm energy.
Visualize, feel, and sense this connection with Mother Earth and how she’s always here to restore and refill you whenever you need this boost. Notice how you feel after 2-3mins, notice how connected you are to the universe.”
2. Meditative walk
Have you noticed that whenever you take a walk you come back clear-headed (minded) and feeling spiritually light? because that’s another way you can meditate without having to “meditate”.

“Take a nice long and quiet walk alone, avoid having your phone without you or music, no distractions. The point is to take this walk and connect with ‘self’ and Mother Nature so she can take all your woes away. Take a walk and use this time to reconnect and realign.
Use this time to let all your thoughts come to the surface and pretty much address and give each one attention. You will notice you and your higher self in a meeting, putting problems to the table and discussing solutions.”
3. Journaling
I am sure at this point you can realize the core purpose of meditating, right? If not, it is to understand and make sense of what is happening consciously vs subconsciously, a method for us to tap into more of our brains which we cannot access in our awake state. A lot of answers, ideas, imagination, etc come from the subconscious which we can only tap into when we’re either meditating or “sleeping”.
The third mindfulness exercise is journaling, I have also been journaling since my preteens, my Mom always encouraged me to journal and write my feelings, I didn’t understand it at first but now it does wonders for my mental health and my spiritual growth. There’s no actual method for journaling.
Add it to your evening routine to use as a way of reflecting on your day and being aware of yourself, just start writing and see the magic unfold.
4. Prayer
Prayer, as a spiritual child, heals and fixes all. Pray, light your candles, burn your incense or mpepho, and just pray and connect with your guides. Prayer changes things.

All these methods have proved to be very beneficial for me and I use them all or interchangeably as and when needed. I hope these help and make a huge difference in your life as much as they have in mine.
