How To Get A Professional Facial At Home

One of the most important things to every girl is flawless skin and that could be one of the most confusing phases in our lives. It’s important firstly to know your skin types, that’s where professional facials fall in. I would recommend you visit the spa if you’re not sure what your skin type is before using anything for your skin.

For my girls that are already in the know, I have some tips to save that coin because we know that spa treatments aren’t cheap. I had an interview with one of the beauticians at Placecol to find out how close to a professional facial you could get with a little DIY. I’ve put together an at-home facial treatment routine, follow these easy steps to flawless skin:

Cleansing

First things first, the first step in any facial is cleansing start with a clean fresh face. Well let me break it down, you need to make sure you cleanse your face twice. If you have on makeup make sure you start with the makeup remover first, then go in with your regular cleanser. If you don’t have any makeup on, just go in with a gentle cleanser first to help soften the skin, then you can use your regular cleanser. I have an amazing cleansing product, this one is a game-changer.

Exfoliating

This might be the most important step to a facial, if you don’t exfoliate prior you won’t see as good results. Exfoliating is a treasure because it removes all the dry and dead skin cells so that the mask can do it’s work. Typically, in this step you would be steaming your face, so if you have a steamer. You could also boil water and exfoliate your face over a bowl, whatever works for you! During this step I also do a lip scrub.

Mask

So this is my favorite step, and is super customizable! There’s a couple of factors to consider here; your skin type, is your skin dry, is it summer or winter, or is your skin breaking out? This is the part where you need to listen to your skin, what is your skin telling you. I always go for natural products on my face, so my go to is a mud mask, but check out my favorite top 5 masks here. Follow the instructions of your mask, pour a glass of wine or roll a joint & let it do its magic. You can also apply a lip mask on this step.

Toner

I love toner. It’s so refreshing and is a good addition to removing excess product on your skin. If you did a deep cleansing mask I recommend you put your toner on a cotton pad and gently swipe it all over your face in soft circular motions. This will make sure that whatever came out of your pores doesn’t stay on your face. If you did a hydrating mask you can apply it however you want.

Specialty Products

This is where I also have fun…I hope you will too! I know you will lol. This is where you can apply any serums or eye creams, I use Aloe Vera gel in this step on my under eye and all over my face. You can also use a face roller if you have one on this step, if you don’t you can do some facial massages 🙂

Moisturize

We’ve made it to our last step, Moisturize! I’m sure we’re all familiar with this step, take your favorite moisturizer and apply it all over your face. I use Shea Butter in winter because skin needs all the good moisture and protection from the dry, harsh weather. In summer I include it into my night skincare regime and just apply Aloe Vera gel and SPF 50. You can also apply your favorite lip balm.

Remember to dedicate time to relax and give yourself a little TLC. It’s important to stay sane especially during this time. What are your coping mechanisms?
