My fashion go-to items for any look

Hey Lovers! I have to admit I missed you guys..if you know me or follow me on IG then you know I love fashion and style I think of myself as a stylist, I remember growing up me & my Mom would always be at odds because she felt I ruined my clothes but I thought I was making them cooler. Still do.

Today I am going to be showing you some inspiration and my wishlist for creating your style, I know this is my first fashion post and I think it’s a good foundation for future fashion posts. I love fashion & blessed enough to have a fashionista mother who’s been in beauty pageants, ballroom dance and so much more. One of the most important things I’ve learned in fashion is personal style. 

I am going to be giving you guys tips that I’ve gained through the years on how to create your own style and if you have one how to upgrade it when needed. We all know not all fashion trends are for everyone whether body type or personality (and I am not saying do not wear what you want, just you want to look your best. Always!) I have put together a couple of looks that include items I feel anyone can rock & look & feel amazing!

 

• FITTED JEANS

One thing I know is you can never go wrong with and a must-have in your closet is a fitted jean, finding the right fit for your body type is important especially for our African body types. A good pair of jeans must have a good stretch, I always advise you buy mid waisted jeans instead of high waisted, it’s more flattering for African body, Zara has a good variety and fit.

Depending on your style you can honestly pair these with literally anything! So I say go wild and try all the looks until you find one that makes you comfortable and gives you confidence, that’s what matters at the end of the day! Confidence not following a trend.

 

• MOM JEANS

Put a twist to your regular jeans & add some style to your jean collection with a good pair of mom jeans. Mom jeans are a fashion item that will not go out of trend anytime soon, why should they! They give you a vintage touch to any outfit!

These are a mash between the boyfriend jean (which I love but doesn’t flatter all body types) and the fitted jean. A dream come true for African bodies, if you’re not comfortable in the fitted jean these should be your best friend. They hug your body where they need to if you know what I mean 😉

I honestly live for Zara jeans, they fit well, they have variety in cuts, need I say more?

• GOOD KNITWEAR

Winter for me is a very hard season to love, but a good outfit helps me with the blues. Knitted tops are so comfortable and a need for winter, normally paired with a good fitted jean and an ankle boot or white sneaker you’ve got yourself a look.

Knitwear are one of the fashion items that have stood the test of time, and they have been improving with more variety that you can imagine. From oversized to fitted to all the colors under the sun, you can have fun with this look, mix and match and like I always say find your sweet spot.

• SWEATERS AND SWEATPANT (OVERSIZED)

Nothing beats comfort with any style or look & having a good pair of sweats makes everything ok. Whether it’s winter or summer we can all use a good pair of nude or grey sweats that you can pair with a tank top, ankle boots and a trenchcoat.

Our partners are victims of this trend cause we shop for these looks from their closet…am I alone? I doubt it! Guys have the best fashion sense when it comes to sweaters, hoodies, and sweatpants, you’d swear they spend time finding the dopest ones. So you can’t really blame us for ”shopping” from their closet, right!?

 

• SHORTS

Shorts are of course one of my favorite items in my closet, you can tell I’m a summer baby. They are super comfortable (you should not go shorter than you feel comfortable) and are definitely a go-to for a summer look, pair them with a good pair of white sneakers. Shorts have been in fashion for as long as I can remember & now they come in different styles, they can be a statement piece to your whole outfit. If you have an African body you need one’s that will fit well, I get mine from MRP, Zara or The Fix.

 

• MINISKIRTS

There’s nothing like a chic mini skirt to pair with almost anything! I really love mini skirts (skirts also work) because they come in all kinds of materials: denim, corduroy skirt with stockings for a cute winter look and leather, you are still styling.

Skirts always put a sense cuteness to your look you know, and showing off a little let never killed anyone. The one in the picture used to be a dress that I turned into a skirt that has a matching vest 😁.

Factorie has the cute skirts and more chic skirts go to Zara.

• WHITE SNEAKERS

I’m obsessed with sneakers. If you know me you know this fact, I always have a nice pair of white sneakers because they go with everything. You can get them anywhere at any sneaker shop and they’re super affordable. Love!

High maintenance but totally worth it! Great sneaker sales and prices are at Studio88.

 

• ANKLE BOOTS

I’m a ”wear boots all year round kind of girl” and these are the best kinds of boots to have for winter and summer. You can pair these with literally anything from sweatpants we can thank our Kardashian sisters for this trend (one of my favorite trends). Turn a basic casual outfit into a date night or girls night out outfit.

I mean. Of course, you can rock them with a skirt or a pair of jeans or literally anything. My advice, make the style yours not the trend, then you have a timeless look.

If you’re looking to shop boots I recommend Superbalist, they have all the shop on their app (download their App available on Appstore and Google play), great sales and of course affordable.

• TRENCHCOATS

Nothing says chic like a good trenchcoat, it can turn any outfit into a look. Trenchcoat are a good item for your wardrobe, you can wear it to work and to a date. Who doesn’t love a good purchase? Here’s a little secret, they can also hide an absolute mess and tidy your look up. Just tie it and pair it with a cute boot & you’re good to go! 

A pop of color during winter can turn a dull outfit into a vibrant and attractive outfit. The trenchcoat can easily be your pop of color, they come in different colors and style fit for everyone. Look at the nice pop of color the trenchcoat added in the picture.

I normally get my trench coats at The Fix or at China Town, just keeping it real.

•  LEATHER JACKETS

Anything leather is a fashion GO, and of course, leather jackets are a have to. They’re timeless and can literally go with any look, that’s what you want from a good item. They come in all colors now to add some color to your look or your closet, I always go or a black leather jacket cause it just gives you that chic badass look with any outfit.

Vintage leather jackets are also so trendy and affordable (if you’re a fan of thrift shopping, guilty!) you cannot help but love fashion because there are rules but not really!

Also Zara and The Fix have the best leather jackets and great quality, you’re welcome!

•  BLOUSE/ SHIRTS

I remember growing up I used to fit my Mom’s blouses ( I doubt she knows this) I always found them so ladylike and chic. I also like wearing men’s shirts cause they can make a chic outfit, and can make a good casual look. I’m actually planning on adding a couple of blouses to my wardrobe, add some chicness.

This is real-life an item in my wish list, I have so many looks planned for them. Let me not get too excited!

I saw really cool blouses at Zara and H&M on my regular window shopping sprees. I cannot wait!

• TROUSER PANTS

Trouser pants I love because they’re a good addition to your wardrobe and a good alternative to your jeans. Turning a simple outfit into a whole look, learned this from Jason Bolden. You can pair this with a good printed shirt, loafers or a pair white sneakers with a leather jacket.

The Fix, Zara and H&M have the coolest trousers, make sure you check them out.

• TANKTOP 

I believe tank tops are an absolute need for your closet, they make any casual outfit. You can rock it with sweatpants, jeans, mom jeans, literally almost every fashion item. I love tank tops for summer because they’re breathable which you need in summer. Kourtney Kardashian has the best casual tank top looks for me, make sure to check her out.

MRP has the most affordable tanks but I normally go to Cotton On & H&M only because they have different styles and designs.

• LOAFERS

These are my favorite to pair with trouser pants, they’re a good cross between chic & tomboy look. These are also a good alternative to heels for a work outfit, they come with so many cool designs from platform to flats. They’re for everyone! You can rock these all year, you have turned a casual outfit into a chic, semiformal look, vibes!

MRP, Cotton On, Factorie and H&M are my go-to for shorts.

• BLAZERS

 

Blazers are one of the timeless items that even my mom used to rock back in her day, blazer rules have changed a lot with time & I’m here for it. You can pair it with anything from biker shorts, to miniskirts, leather pants, even with sweatpants you have a look. I like more of a street style/ chic so I love mix-matching my looks to come up with my own style.

Another wishlist item for me and I for sure want more than one. Blazers aren’t viewed like the teacher or secretary boring item, they are now chic, sexy even you can rock for a tomboy look. These item has honestly been around for as long as I can remember, you have even blazer dresses now (which I do intend to add, sponsors I hope you hear me!) so you have a lot of choices.

Zara & H&M have the coolest blazers saw a leather blazer at H&M and I almost died.

• PRINTED SHIRTS

If you know me then you know I’m a street style kinda girl, printed shirts are a street style outfits foundation, I normally go for oversized cause I normally pair them with shorts, bikers shorts. They are super cool and effortless, which I love.

Fitted shirts also work of course for a more chic look, just make sure you’re comfortable and are having fun.

Printed shirts aren’t that hard to come by but Cotton On has the coolest and goofiest prints.

• DENIM JACKETS

Denim jackets are one of my favorites having been a Braam girl before it’s one of the items I took with me. Denim jackets are super versatile and come in all kinds of styles making them literally for every style & everyone, you can go oversized, you can go fitted and you still look like you’re dressed by a stylist. Jason Bolden is my favorite stylist by the way, somebody tell him I love him!

I actually like putting a bit of me in my jackets, so I draw them and paint them. If you’re into that kind of vibe leave a comment or slide in my DMs and I gotchu!

I normally get my denim jackets from thrift shops and Levi’s shops (when on sale)

• LEATHER PANTS

Since last year, leather pants have been in trend and I have to say I’m not mad at this trend. They turn any outfit into an outfit a stylist could out together. There are different cuts for these pants making them versatile and for everyone, I am not a fan of fitting clothes but I would advise to fit these before purchase especially if buying in summer.

I saw really dope leather pants at The Fix, in my wishlist for sure!

•  DRESS

A good dress can give you different looks. I always go for dresses that I can rock all year long. Denim dress, summer dress, the little black dress, maxi dress and denim dresses.

Make sure you put your own style or personality to your outfit and have fun.

Zara, The Fix and H&M have trendy dresses for every style. Love them!

• BIKER SHORTS

Biker shorts have been in trend for a while now and it seems they’re not going anywhere, these are one of the most comfortable fashion items that can be paired with almost everything. I think I’ve mentioned them in almost all the looks. Though this is not a look for the office it’s a definite look for everywhere else. 

Cotton On and Factorie have really cool biker short, different colors and prints.
