I started my spiritual journey officially around the end of 2019, when I first met and listened to my intuition; I say this because I believe that our spiritual journey starts at birth, that’s why the foundation of your spirituality is your family. However when you’re around your mid 20s that’s when your awakening starts. So I listened and met my ‘self’ in 2019 I was 26 so I listened and acted on my intuition for the first time EVER!
I had my applications ready, tickets ready, I had tickets ready to Spain and I already knew where in Spain I would be living and how I would be painting in my small cottage-like Spanish-looking house by the beach with the wind blowing, with Erykah Badu, H.E.R type music in the background with a joint on in the ashtray, writing, truly following my purpose and calling, that’s a story-time coming soon on Youtube! I hadn’t been ready to share that story but the time is now!
As I started this journey I understood a lot about this world because I grew up super close to my very spiritually gifted Grandma, so I had some knowledge, even of the fact that I am gifted as well. However, one thing was a bit of a challenge for me and that was meditation. LOL! I can already see and hear you guys nodding and laughing in agreement.
I remember my first year starting my career as an intern at Absa in 2015, I had like a work Dad so to say, who really took a liking to me, his name was Gavin, He would always come to me telling me that I was highly intuitive and he would encourage me to tap into studying psychology, and mindfulness. This was the first time I had heard about mindfulness and I mean I was about 20 years old I had no idea what mindfulness is.
This was meditation creeping into my life, fast forward to 2019, I go through my actual awakening, and then 2020 hits.
We’ve all been through it, the whole world was shut down! No jobs, no resources, airports, and borders are closed. Now I am stuck, just as I thought my life was going in the direction of the life of my dreams. I mean I guess looking back now I was, but boy did I not anticipate the chaos and rollercoaster coming my way. Through all the challenges I faced, like unemployment, homelessness, and sleeping on my friend’s couches. S/o to you all I love ya’ll, ya’ll know who you are, meditation was officially introduced into my life and changed my life.
Meditation can be tricky and I’ve had a lot of people, close ones, my followers, and strangers ask me how to meditate and a lot of them have the wrong understanding of what meditation is. A lot of people think meditating means “quieting your mind”, this is a big misconception on what meditating is and what its benefits are.
We need to understand the purpose of meditation before we can use it right? It’s only logical.

What is meditation?
There’s a lot that comes with this question. Contrary to popular belief, meditation is something you actually do but is a state of being, a state of connecting and aligning with ‘self’ a state of consciousness. Through meditation, you focus your thoughts or focus on your thoughts, the aim is to detach yourself from your thoughts, and from their meaning and consequences.
‘Meditation isn’t something that you do’
What my take on it is
I look at it brainstorming with ‘self’ and your thoughts, using your breath and focusing on your breath to focus on your thoughts as they come and go and use my discernment to know them and understand them and then choose which one of these thoughts are from my highest ‘self’ and for my higher purpose
Cause as soon as you sit down, it feels like all your demons (re)surface, right? This is normal cause the brain will always do its job and that’s work, analyze, understand, and mostly warn! So it is normal for all the thoughts to come to crowd you, especially at first, I mean they are getting attention probably for the first time. I mean, they are also excited to get all this love, so don’t run from the thoughts but learn to understand and filter them out.
You can get even ridiculous thoughts like “I’m craving fried chicken and some fries”, “some sushi would be great right now”, I forgot to take out the trash or the laundry in the washer”, obviously these are just unnecessary and distracting thoughts, this not why we’re meditating. We’re trying to connect with self, with the subconscious, so discernment is vital.
So we know that not all thoughts are “good” or high vibrational thoughts, right? But good can be subjective especially when it comes to meditating, during meditation, you can get breakthroughs, however, this comes with discernment and understanding ‘self’ and understanding your thoughts, you visualize the thoughts that will come and go and you ‘brainstorm’, take the thoughts/ or ideas and expand on those that are from your higher ‘self’, recognize the others, understand them and let them go.
All the thoughts come from you, from ‘self’, for you to be more aligned and in flow with yourself and life you need to choose which ones are for your purpose and true self. Always remember God gave us free will and whether you choose bad thoughts or good thoughts is fully up to you, that means you accept the consequences that come with those choices.
I pray that you always make the right decision for your journey and your soul, don’t choose looking at the next person’s life but your own, and you will always be making the right decision. Life and change are never easy but it’s always worth it.
I hope this article taught you something about meditation and that it opened your mind and heart a little bit more. I will be creating more content on meditation cause this feels right. Sending you love and light.
