What This Year Has Really Taught Me About Owning a Business

ValeryKea

This year has been that kind of year — the one that humbles you, stretches you, and reminds you that growth isn’t always loud or glamorous. If you’ve ever built something from the ground up — a brand, a business, a dream — then you know exactly what I mean.

When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, I thought motivation would be the fuel that kept me going. You know, those mornings when you wake up inspired, journal in hand, coffee steaming, ready to take on the world. But here’s what I’ve learned: motivation is temporary. Discipline, faith, and consistency are what really keep your vision alive.

You Don’t Need Motivation — You Need to Keep Going

Some days you’ll wake up and feel unstoppable. Other days, even opening your laptop will feel like a win. The truth? Both days matter. Business isn’t built in your best moments — it’s built in the quiet ones, the uncertain ones, when no one is clapping yet.

If you’re reading this, maybe you’ve been waiting to feel ready — to have the perfect plan, the right timing, more clarity. But you will never be ready if you’re waiting to feel ready. Read that again.

The act of starting — even when you’re unsure — is where alignment begins to happen. The universe, God, your intuition (whatever you call it) doesn’t require you to understand every step, only to take the first one.

The Idea Is Bigger Than You

Here’s something I had to unlearn: not every idea that comes to you is meant to be fully understood — at least not right away. The idea is not yours to dissect; it’s yours to honor.

Think of it like this — that spark, that concept that keeps nudging you — it’s a divine contract between you and God. Your only responsibility is to say yes and show up. The how, the who, and the when will unfold in time.

When you try to control every detail before starting, you rob yourself of the magic that happens in motion. And trust me, the lessons you learn along the way are far more valuable than any plan you could have written down.

You Are the Blueprint

This one hit me hardest: your business is an extension of you.

The way you show up, love, rest, communicate, and even heal — all of it reflects in your brand.

If you want to understand your business better, start by understanding yourself. Your patterns. Your fears. Your values. When you nurture yourself, you naturally nurture the energy that your business operates from.

So, if things feel stuck right now, ask yourself:

  • Am I moving from fear or faith?
  • Am I waiting for permission, or am I trusting the nudge?
  • What version of me is my business asking me to become?

These reflections shift everything — because your growth and your brand’s growth are one and the same.

A Gentle Reminder

If you’ve been in that space of uncertainty or burnout, here’s your reminder to breathe.

To not give up because the results are slow or the path feels foggy.

You are not behind. You are becoming.

The process is the point. The consistency, the lessons, the still moments when no one sees the effort — that’s where your foundation is built.

So keep showing up. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.

Because maybe this year wasn’t about achieving everything you planned — maybe it was about becoming the person who can.

What lesson has business (or life) taught you this year?

Take a moment to write it down — your words might just be the confirmation someone else needs today.

Till next time.
